Happy New Year!!!
Dear China cat:
I'm a cat lover from China. I’m sorry to leave a comment here at your blog that may offend your territory or spoil your New Year. But I hope you can have a look at it before deleting it.
While we are enjoying our new year, cats in China are leading miserable lifes. Thousands of cats are captured from all over China and sent to Guangdong Province to be eaten by some Cantonese. The Cantonese have a tradition of eating cats and they kill them in a very cruel way(and I don’t think I could describe it). Recently, some of lorries were found transporting cats and cat lovers went to rescue those cats only to find that even the police cannot hold the vicious cat dealers up because we have no laws to follow. Those cats were stuffed in small cages and a lot of them were already killed on the way. (These news have partly been reported within China but not yet around the world)
We feel extremely sad and helpless. I myself have asked the RSPCA(U.K) for help and to our delight they have been playing a key role in the DRAFTING of China's first animal protection law(published on 20th Dec.2008).
But I still don’t see that our government taking any positive actions towards this issue. And as the RSPCA responded, ” much of the work that we do is lobbying and it is not always useful or appropriate to publicise this through the usual channels.”(quoted). Thus I would like to get this publicised through unusual channels to let cat lovers from all over the world know what is going on in China and may some one will lend out a hand to those poor animals in China.
That’s why I leave my words on your blog. Thanks a million for your patience and you generosity. And HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you.

With regards,
Andrea in China
